i’ve become a little more knowledgable about the sneakerheads thanks to my little brother who can’t get enough of sb dunks. he’s always reading blogs and checking up on the new releases everytime i see him on the computer. now im not a sneaker head and i don’t plan on becoming one but these sb’s are hot.
they came out a little over a week ago and they’ve been sold out since a little over a week ago. the fishing company concepts colaborated with nike on these as they did last year with the original lobster. with the success of the original came the sequel. the packaging was the crazy part. they sold for $250 a pop, but you can expect to pay more for them now
ITS THE SHOES! as Mars Blackman would say. Yes ladies and gents, MJ wasn’t actually capable of completing this feat with his sheer dancing prowess, he actually created a shoe and patented it on my birthday. I’m a little sad and happy about this at the same time because it makes me feel better that I can’t do it (even though I can’t do any MJ move properly). Here are some more things you may not have known about MJ.
new G.O.O.D music aquisition mr hudon’s supernova ft kanye. thanks to hypebeast
Ma ma se, ma ma sa, ma ma coo sa
and I’m back from Costa Rica! ill post about my trip later but the Michael Jackson commemoration continues and I just wanted to let everyone in on what I felt was a pretty well kept secret… what the hell is “Ma ma se, ma ma sa, ma ma coo sa”?? apparently its a homage to the pioneer of African pop - Manu Dibango.
There were a bunch of legal issues that they had because Manu wasn’t initially credited in the song, but they worked it out and Manu made his money. Want more details, click the link
i’m a little late for this, so the rest of this post should probably seem like bullshit. but in any case… congratulations, old friend. two days ago, my hero, my idol, my inspiration for 18 years… steve yzerman was inducted into the nhl hall of fame. back in the days of middle school and high school where i didn’t have much of an identity, more kids knew me as “that kid who loves steve yzerman.” i was yzerman for halloween in the sixth grade. hundreds of his hockey cards. three jerseys. bobbleheads. i was introduced to hockey by learning about him, his awesome name, and his team’s awesome jersey when i was 5 years old. and thus began my obsession with hockey. anyone who’s a hockey fan (all… seven soul banger readers) knows of his tenacity as a player, and how he turned the red wings into a shoddy wasteland of crap into an absolute mammoth of a team.
so, congratulations, steve yzerman. (and you too brian leetch.)
troyt coburn photography. for lee. this one makes me think of waldo in a dali world, where he just can’t handle his anonymous reality and dives into the ground and melts. someone make that a story. click for other ads.
john gourley speaks
i think i said before that i was going to write a very long-winded post on our torrent-minded generation. i’ve always been pro-downloading (free music! whoo!) but to the extent of deciding if an album was worth it or not. taking back sunday’s new again? if i bought that album, my ten dollars would have been crying for weeks to come. castledoor’s shouting at mountains? so glad i bought it.
the satanic satanist?
well, the album leaked yesterday. i downloaded it immediately. i’ve listened through the album maybe nine times today. pretty ready for the tenth. i told everyone. everyone who cared, that is. why? for one, just one year ago, i was the only portugal. the man fan i knew amongst my circle of friends. last halloween, i rolled through with twelve, maybe even fifteen kids to see the show. i’m here to spread the love of music, the interesting sounds and stories, the pure genius of people like john gourley, like bobby darling, like thomas durden, like alex greenwald, like chris conley, like geoff rickly, like greta salpeter, like aaron weiss, like kirk huffman, like kyle o’quin… the list goes on. and the point isn’t hurray, free music. it’s holy shit, this is interesting. wow, i’ve never heard something like this before. jeez, this is pretty effing cool. damn, that was sick what he just did. there are some people (zackb) who i will run up to every week with ten bands, going, “listen to this! and THIS! AND THIS! why haven’t you listened yet?!” and yeah that’s intense. but i’m a pretty intense dude. and even if i fire off ten bands, if one sticks, that’s one band that will stay in your head and dance around and light campfires and build a tent and stay nestled and safe and sleep soundly every night till they release a new record and you love that shit too.
so. the point. the point is that torrents are awesome, but the important thing is to help these guys who have created the albums you grow to love. if you want to torrent katy perry’s shit, fine, she’s a slut. and i know i’m not being fair to katy perry, maybe she is a very respectable artist in her own right. even though i know she’s not and that she’s a huge slut. but in any case, itunes and amazon offer all the albums you could ever wish for under $10. be kind, be loving, and be rewarding for the people who make these albums buy dropping that $10. think you’ll be spending too much on albums? who cares? would you rather spend $50 on albums in a month or $50 buying a round of jager bombs in one night that you’ll regret buying the very next morning*?
click the title above and check out john gourley’s response to portugal. the man’s album being leaked. it’s longer, better, and much more personal than this post, and i hope you all go through it, portugal. the man fan or not, and hopefully we can turn our torrent generation around. cheers. p.s. iphone is definitely not as cool as pirate hunting. flippin tapion, that flippin nerd.
*this does not apply to paul lenti, tim faley, or jaaperific, all who regret nothing, especially not a round of jager bombs.
pirate hunting??? how about IPHONE HUNTING!!!
this is an amazing story of a guy who was unfortunate enough to have to test out the new iPhone locator portion of mobileMe. to give a small summary of the event, guy goes to lego convention (super cool dude), leaves his iPhone in a bar and the following day he precedes to track the guy down who took his phone and does so successfully. and the portion that is specifically for iPhone users is at the end where the guy discusses what needs to be fixed by apple in the finding system.
