i’m not a huge nba fan, but my dear friend noodle sent me an article that caron butler wrote for the fan voice column of nba.com. part of initial blog entry deals with his battle with mountain dew addiction. one that far outweighs my own.
I lost 11 pounds this summer by giving up Mountain Dew. That’s right Mountain Dew. A lot of people don’t know I’m a Mountain Dew addict so I guess this is my confession.
To try and give this up was CRAZY for me! I was going through withdrawals. I was in the bed sweating. My wife would turn over in the bed and ask “Are you OK?” .Honestly, those first two weeks without The Dew was the roughest two weeks of my life. I’m talking headaches, sweats and everything. Before that I drank at least six 12 ounce Mountain Dews a day.
It was so bad at one point that I had to have a cold one right there at the night stand before I went to bed. I had to get the coasters and let it drip a lil’ bit and just have it waiting on me. Come 2 a.m.., I’d wake up out of my sleep, I’d pop one open and hear the fizz sound…and just down it! Then I always had to have another one in the morning when I woke up. Before practice I had one too and before games I would knock back two.
insanity. the worst part? now i can’t stop thinking about the delicious taste and crispiness and i want one right now. so weak. check the rest here.
almost bought this book yesterday just because of the size of it (perfect hardcover book size) and the cover design (no jacket either). forget that it’s a book by dave eggers, or that it’s an adaptation of the movie. this is one sexy effing cover. even though reviews have been less than favorable, i have faith in my boy dave to deliver a tale worthy of maurice sendak’s approval. and my own.
some illustrations by amose. wish i could make creations like this. see more here.
i’m gonna make up for all the inactivity today, starting now. throwback to 2005 (maybe 2004?) when dangerdoom (mf doom and danger mouse) released this track, crosshairs, in a ridiculous CD that was pretty much… all about adult swim.
japan’s response for 300. stylistically, i mean. and without cheap cgi. “scf-fi” samurai story, called the cup of tears.
totally sold.
so maybe… i dont know… ten years ago, mtv released an animated series called “downtown,” circling around a bunch of new yorkers in their early twenties, and all the silly problems we kids have to deal with living in the city. this particular episode is about the subway system. i’m actually pretty stoked, because today is the first time i’ll ever purposefully hit up the J train. anyway most of the episodes have been buried by the days of yesteryear but some are available online.
i wasn’t sold by the first wolfman trailer. seemed a little… boring. bland. long. but this second one looks beautiful, epic, creepy, and pretty damn intense. still not 100% sold on it, but i can appreciate a solid effing trailer when i see one.
our dear friend chris lieeeeeeeeeeen found this old interview with michael talbot - the author of the holographic universe. it’s a hefty interview (twenty-seven minutes long) but i’ll be damned if it doesn’t summarize the main ideas of this philosophy.
